We are Tired

Remember if you no act your own, one day of course we must die
— Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, “Army Arrangement” 1985

Stills from We are Tired (2020) Tobi Akinde, Nigeria.

Synopsis

The incessant record of rape cases across Nigeria at the height of the Pandemic in 2020 became the tilting point, forcing youths across Nigeria (mostly girls) out of their houses despite potential risk of contacting the virus. As I accompanied one of the protests in Ibadan restlessly with my camera, I allowed myself to be immersed in their outrage, confrontation and defiance, and then participated through an omniscient poetry rendition.
